Is VAT fraud a criminal offence?
The offence of fraudulent evasion of VAT is governed by Section 72 of the Value Added Tax Act 1994 which states :”If any person is knowingly concerned in, or in the taking of steps with a view to, the fraudulent evasion of VAT by him or any other person, he is guilty of an offence.”
